Carinya Christian School is now receiving applications for a permanent part time Receptionist and Administration Assistant to commence at our Gunnedah School in Term 1 2019.

The Position

Working under the direction of the Principal and in conjunction with the Administrative Team based in Tamworth, the Receptionist will support the daily operations of the Gunnedah School.

The position is 2 days per week from 8:00am to 4:30pm, school Term Weeks and Curriculum Weeks only (generally 40 weeks a year).

Given the small size of the Gunnedah school, the Receptionist and Administration Assistant will be required to perform a large variety of roles in supporting the operations of the school. Specifically they will be expected to complete the following tasks with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism:

  • Greeting visitors and providing a first response to their inquiry;

  • Answering phone calls and directing those calls;

  • Making appointments on behalf of the Principal and managing changes;

  • Completing daily attendance requirements via the school administration system, including arrangements for students signing in and out of the school;

  • Recording and managing student enrolment data using the school administration system;

  • Providing First Aid to students, including the administration of medication in accordance with the students medical care plan;

  • Purchasing consumables and other supplies to support the operations of the school as directed and in accordance with the schools purchasing policy;

  • As directed assist in the preparation of letters, student reports and newsletters to be sent to the school community;

  • Receive uniform orders from parents and distribute uniform orders on occasion;

  • Support the organisation and operation of school functions;

  • Other tasks to support the operation and administration of the school as directed by the Principal.

The APPLIcant

Applicants must be committed Christians of reformed evangelical persuasion. Personal characteristics and skills considered essential to successfully fulfill the responsibilities of the role include:

  • A welcoming, friendly demeanour;

  • Prefers to work as a member of a team and in contact with people;

  • High level understanding and experience in operating complex computer based information systems;

  • Able to touch type and work with software applications to create professionally presented documents;

  • Excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation;

  • Articulate and clearly spoken;

  • Be able to manage a complex work environment by simultaneously prioritising and managing a variety of tasks;

  • Have the ability to maintain a flexible attitude to daily work flow;

  • Have the capacity to make appropriate judgments to ensure student safety and welfare;

  • Be willing to undertake all filing, photocopying and other administrative duties;

  • Without exception be able to respect and understand the need for confidentiality;

  • Able to develop effective and positive relationships with all students and parents of the school.

The School

The Tamworth Christian Education Association operates both Carinya Christian School Gunnedah and Tamworth. Over 550 families, 940 students, and 140 staff make up the Carinya community, with staff working across both schools to share administrative and curriculum resources.

Carinya Gunnedah is a Prep to Year 6 co-educational school, with plans in place to commence Year 7 in 2019 and progress to Year 10 by 2022. The school has a strong academic profile and a broad extra curricular program. Over 75 families form the Gunnedah school community and more than 150 students are currently enrolled from Prep to Year 6.


Reception and Administrative staff are employed under the Independent Schools NSW Standards Model (Support and Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2017 – 2021. This agreement provides above average benefits and career progression opportunities to all staff.

Gunnedah is a major commercial township of the Liverpool Plains located within the North West Slopes Region of north-west New South Wales. The township is approximately 450 kilometres north of the Sydney CBD and 650 kilometres south of the Brisbane CBD.
