Carinya Christian School Gunnedah is located in the centre of Gunnedah and provides families with a calm and secure learning environment for children from the age of 3 up to Year 6. With plans to expand to Year 8 in 2020, it is one of the only Schools in Gunnedah NSW where both Primary School and High School aged girls and boys can attend the same campus.

OUR HISTORY

In August 1999, Carinya Gunnedah was officially recognised as a Carinya Christian School campus. The Tamworth Christian Education Association saw an opportunity in 1998 to support the ongoing provision of Christian Education to the Gunnedah community by assuming the management of what was previously Gunnedah Christian Community School at the beginning of 1999.

It was humble beginnings for Carinya Gunnedah with just two classes, less than 20 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and two full-time teachers.

Now, nearly twenty years later, Carinya Gunnedah has over 200 students in the Kindergarten Preparatory Program through to Year 7 and will continue to grow with the expansion of Secondary schooling up to Year 10 by 2022.

We’re growing!

Secondary Schooling has launched in our brand new Middle School complex!

In 2016 enrolments began to grow at Carinya Gunnedah. To provide options for the future accommodation of students, a decision was made to purchase 97, 101, 105 and 107 Little Barber Street, Gunnedah.

In 2017 the Board of the Association began to consider a facilities Master Plan for Carinya Gunnedah, which included expanding to secondary schooling. In November 2017 the process to expand to Years 7 to 10 was initiated by the Board on the following basis:

  • Stage 1 to commence with Year 7 in 2019 and Year 8 in 2020

  • Stage 2 to continue with Year 9 in 2021 and Year 10 in 2022.

NEW FACILITIES

Term 1, 2019 saw the completion of the new Middle School complex for students in Years 5 to 8, including four new specialised, purpose built classrooms equipped with flexible, modern educational technologies and landscaped, outdoor areas to accommodate a range of sports and activities during both break times and Physical Education.

A message from the principal

At Carinya Gunnedah, Jesus Christ is central to the core vision of the school and our understanding of Him is embedded in our educational practices, at every level.

Children of all ages are taught that everything they learn about, is the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, as the Creator of the universe.  They are also taught that every skill, every ability and every gift they have, has come to them "From Christ" and is to be used "For Him".

Each child is treated as an individual, made in the image of God, to be loved, valued and respected as a learner.  The learning and achievement of each child matters equally with the learning and achievement of others.  These perspectives are described in more detail in the prospectus, by the Principal of Carinya Tamworth.

A school for parents!

Parents really matter at Carinya Gunnedah: sharing with parents in the education of their children is seen as a privilege for all staff at Carinya and one which we take seriously.  A close working relationship between parents and teachers is a strong foundation in teaching children to be resilient, responsible and self motivated in their learning.

I look forward to meeting you, showing you the school and discussing how home and school can work together in the education of your children.
