EDUCATION ASSISTANTS
Carinya Christian School is now receiving applications for part-time and full-time Education Assistants to work at our Gunnedah campus.
The Position
Working under the direction of the Heads of School, Education Assistants support students who need significant adjustments and interventions to their learning program.
Specifically the Education Assistants will be expected to complete the following tasks with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism:
Document interactions with students, parents and teachers where necessary;
Contribute to the delivery of Individual Learning Programs for students with learning and behaviour disorders;
Assist with the implementation of special provisions;
Prepare equipment and materials specific to the student and classroom needs in accordance with class teacher directions;
Provide assistance during class activities, as required, to ensure maximum participation in programs;
Consult with the Learning Support Coordinator as required;
Liaise with the class teacher for relevant duties;
The APPLIcant
Applicants must be committed Christians of reformed evangelical persuasion. It is expected that applicants will have completed a Certificate 3 in Education Support, or be currently completing a university degree in Education. Other applicants will be considered based on their experience and/or other relevant qualification.
Personal characteristics and skills considered essential for the Teacher Aide to successfully fulfil the responsibilities of the role include:
Able to work as a member of a team;
Understand how to relate effectively to students from Years K-8;
Be able to work independently when required;
Have the ability to maintain a flexible attitude to daily work flow;
Have the capacity to make appropriate judgments to ensure student safety and welfare;
Have ICT competencies conducive to supporting students with significant learning disorders;
Be willing to learn and adapt to the complex nature of the variety of learning and physical disabilities encountered;
Be willing to assist with filing, photocopying and other administrative duties;
Without exception be able to respect and understand the need for confidentiality;
Work to develop effective and positive relationships with all students in the class;
Be able to work with students individually or in small groups on activities planned by the teaching team
The School
The Tamworth Christian Education Association operates both Carinya Christian School Gunnedah and Tamworth. Over 550 families,1000 students, and 140 staff make up the Carinya community, with staff working across both schools to share administrative and curriculum resources.
Carinya Gunnedah is a Prep to Year 10 co-educational school. The school has a strong academic profile and a broad extra curricular program. Over 75 families form the Gunnedah school community and more than 250 students are currently enrolled from Prep to Year 10. A strong focus on professional development and teaching standards exists within the school and staff are encouraged to seek progression against the National Teaching Standards.
