    Carinya Christian School is accepting applications for the position of Secondary Mathematics &/or Science &/or Technologies Teacher.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of over 200 Christian staff between the Tamworth and Gunnedah schools.  Reporting to the STEM Coordinator and Head of School, and ultimately responsible to the Principal and Executive, while working alongside other team members.

    Qualification / Documentation Required

    • NESA Teacher Accreditation

    • Qualified to teach Mathematics &/or Science &/or Technologies with knowledge and/or experience

    • The ability to teach in other areas, including Science, would be beneficial

    • Valid working with children check

    • Degree Qualification in Teaching

    BACKGROUND TO THE POSITION OF SECONDARY MATHEMATICS &/OR SCIENCE &/OR TECHNOLOGIES TEACHER
    Carinya’s vision is to provide quality, Christ-Centred education. A Secondary Mathematics, Science, and/or Technologies Teacher is to be a Christ-like model to the students. Teachers direct and instruct the learning of students from years 7 to 12 as they seek to develop quality solutions to real world problems, opportunities and needs across a breadth of mathematical experiences.


    OBJECTIVES OF POSITION
    Teachers are responsible to prepare and deliver curriculum and teaching programs that engage students in their learning.  The teacher will teach students so as to promote the aims and objectives of the school and maintain the school’s Christ centred philosophy of education. 

    Secondary Mathematics &/or Science &/or Technologies Teachers direct and instruct the learning of students from Years 7 to 12 as they seek to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in Mathematics &/or Science &/or Technologies and numeracy.

    • NESA Teacher Accreditation

    • Qualified to teach Mathematics &/or Science &/or Technologies with knowledge and/or experience

    • The ability to teach in other areas, including Science, would be beneficial

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
    The Secondary Mathematics &/or Science &/or Technologies Teacher must be accredited to teach with the New South Wales Education Standards Authority.

    They will work alongside a passionate and supportive team committed to achieving positive learning outcomes for each student. More specifically they need to show the skills required to:

    • Create engaging, intellectually challenging and safe learning environments through planning, implementing and evaluating rigorous and inclusive learning programs

    • Implement high-yield instructional strategies that challenge all learners to achieve personal excellence

    • Use data to to maximise growth in student learning outcomes

    • Work creatively and constructively within a range of 'communities' inside and beyond the school and set high, achievable goals for themselves and their students.

  • Reporting to the STEM Coordinator, the successful applicant will be required to fulfil the following responsibilities:

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Students will be taught and valued as individuals, made in the image of God, on purpose and for a purpose

    • The talents and abilities of each child are to be regarded as gracious gifts from the Lord Jesus and valued equally in the classroom and in the school community

    • Students are to be intrinsically motivated

    • Competition, rewards, merits, public recognition etc. are to be rejected as valid motivation tools etc. There are no winners and losers in a Carinya classroom 

    • Students are to be taught to be faithful in using the abilities and opportunities God has given them.

    • Students are to be taught to “seek the reward in the task"

    • The classroom will be characterised by community and cooperation, not rivalry and competition.

    TASKS AND DUTIES

    In the Classroom:

    • Create and manage a caring, supportive, and stimulating Christ centred classroom environment which is conducive to effective learning

    • Maintain good order and discipline among pupils

    • Foster and develop respect in pupils for the integrity of each member of the classroom, regardless of ability, gender, cultural background or family status 

    • Consider and care for the personal, social and spiritual development of each child in your care in the classroom

    • Plan and prepare lessons in order to deliver the National Curriculum ensuring breadth and balance in each subject or curriculum area being addressed

    • Identify clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes for lesson delivery, with appropriate challenge and high expectations

    • Ensure organisation and delivery of the curriculum addresses differentiation of learning needs and abilities

    • Plan and institute a formal system of monitoring, assessment, record-keeping and reporting of children’s progress in keeping with school policies and procedures

    • Ensure effective use of support staff within the classroom when needed

    • Be familiar with, and implement all school policies and procedures regarding the effective management of students. 


    Towards Parents:

    • Communicate, meet and consult with parents as needed 

    • Attend regular parent-teacher interviews as scheduled. 


    Towards the School Community: 

    • Support all school activities, including after hours, as directed

    • Support the principal in promoting the ethos of the school

    • Recognise Work Health and Safety as the responsibility of every employee, to take reasonable care of self and others and comply with the School’s Work Health and Safety policies as published.


    Towards the Profession:

    • Participate in all staff meetings after hours as required

    • Be actively involved and contribute to the development, coordination and presentation of the curriculum as required including the preparation and development of policies and programs of instruction, teaching materials, resources

    • Support and implement all school policies as they relate to all aspects of the purposes and good function of the school (including discipline, school uniform, mobile phones, child protection etc)

    • Maintain professional accreditation with NESA and continue professional development as required

    • Adhere to professional dress requirements.

    Commencement
    This position is scheduled to commence immediately.
